Nazanin Azizmohammadi

Fatemeh Azizmohammadi, professionally known as Nazanin Azizmohammadi, is an Iranian legal scholar and researcher based in Washington, D.C.
My work begins with a public-law concern: how legal institutions distribute power, protection, and vulnerability, particularly in women’s lives. I am an Iranian legal scholar specialising in constitutional and public law, women’s rights and health, gender-based and sexual violence, and access to justice. Iran is my primary jurisdiction, and I draw on comparative perspectives from the United States and other legal systems to examine the distance between formal legal guarantees and their operation in practice.
I hold a Ph.D. in Public Law and an LL.M. in Gender, International & Comparative Law. My background combines academic research, university teaching, and legal and policy research on women’s rights, constitutional law, and public health. My prior work included research on harm reduction, safe housing, and women in vulnerable situations. My research draws on doctrinal analysis, judicial decisions, interviews, and comparative or statistical evidence when these methods help explain institutional patterns.
I currently serve as a Senior Research Affiliate at Virginia Tech’s Dataism Lab and a Legal Consultant with Equality Now. I previously served as an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Public Law at the University of Science and Culture (2018–2023). My current work examines evidentiary standards in sexual-violence cases and the relationship between domestic constitutional structures and international human-rights norms.
